This GPS is very easy to use and is very durable when used out in the elements.
Their computer then automatically recalculated my shipping terms at their discretion, upon my re-submission. Amazon investigated, reported that my order will not ship overnight after all, that the typo I entered created a pay decline, affected re-submission (punishment). I rested easy. As hours went by I noticed that no order shipping confirmation came. Owned Garmin before.
I live in Arizona. Within minutes I realized that I made a typo when entering my credit card expiration date. Amazon doesn't care. ALL Amazon's fault. This behavior has alienated me completely.
Amazon emails full of euphemisms thanking me for my cooperation and understanding, none of which I expressed. This new model was birthday present for 65 year old dad, to match mine. I inquired. Amazon made NO effort to deliver on time at all. I immediately re-entered my data and re-submitted my order. Product is super, upgrade from older model already owned.
Delivery on time was easy, NO air required. Amazon exercises control over whole transaction, terms and delivery in spite of my payment or my wishes. Thought that all was well. Ground service via UPS is 3 hours. It was still Thursday. Knew what I was getting.
Purchase did NOT make it for birthday event. Needed it for weekend. The customer is prohibited from answering back. What was particularly annoying was that every email communication from Amazon was a one-sided conversation. Amazon did not budge. I don't need a supplier that spies on me and controls me when I pay up in good faith.
I've lost all respect for this overbearing retailer. Hype rules. I have purchased from Amazon many times before and shopped Amazon many times before as demonstrated by the SPAM email advertisements I receive from them "knowing" what I recently viewed. Placed order and paid for overnight delivery on Thusday May 21. Any issue cannot be discussed. Item ships from Phoenix.
As Amazon web page indicated that any order placed within the next four hours guaranteed overnight delivery. A $15 credit was offered for my inconvenience.
I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase and happy that I followed their lead. I knew this was a great unit because many of my friends already own this model and like it.
I haven't purchased any of the maps yet, but I think that will come in the near future, because being able to see the roads as I drive from cache to cache would be nice. It gets a better satellite fix and zooms in closer. All in all, a great device, and I would whole-heartedly recommend this GPSr. This is a great mid-range GPSr for those who enjoy Geocaching, or just like to hike and get out of doors. I use it mainly for Geocaching, and it is much better than my old Magellan 210.
Each time we parked the rented car, we marked it as a waypoint so we could find it again. Second, if your batteries are running low, switch them out before you start driving on a super-highway in a strange town. We just returned from a trip. We had spare AA batteries just in case the re chargeables wore out. We've had this receiver now for two years.Like others, I was a disappointed to discover that I had to pay extra for maps.
Two things we've learned: Put the GPS on a lanyard that goes around your neck so you do not lose it. We also loaded waypoints for the nearest grocery store so we could pick up some "munchies" for the hotel room and our trips. It is easy to lose when pre-occupied with taking pictures and exploring/shopping. Third, you will not lose much by turning off all the sound notifications. It is a well designed device. We constantly switched from pedestrian to automobile mode. We took more than one wrong turn and missed more than one street, but the receiver quickly recalculated the route and put us back on track.
Also, this replaced another Garmin that suddenly stopped working when it was dropped on grass. Using Google maps and the software for the device, we downloaded waypoints for all of the places we wanted to visit during our trip.We walked/explored the resort town on the way to pick up the rented car and never got lost. After more than 15 hours on the road we used the receiver to navigate, in the dark, on roads we had never traveled, to bring us back to the hotel. At first I was a little reluctant to purchase this GPS.Having said that, I hope that person who designed this receiver received a bonus / promotion. We used it in a rented kayak too, to find our way back. Then, we took off to visit several tourist attractions ranging from hiking trails to places in urban settings, to ocean adventures and and museums.
First, we downloaded a waypoint for our hotel to make certain the taxi driver at the airport didn't "take us for a long ride." Once at the hotel, using Google Maps and a notebook computer, and the cord that comes with the device, we downloaded a waypoint for the place we were going to pick up a rented car. Once we got the car, we drove to supermarkets and took our supplies back to the hotel.
